Near La Palud-sur-Verdon, the Route des Crêtes forms a 24-kilometre loop with 14 viewpoints. Allow one and a half to three hours on a motorcycle outing: the distance is short, but stops at Carelle or Dent d’Aire change the pace of the day.
Ride the full loop clockwise because its central section is one-way. The usual season runs from late March to late November; check current access before setting out. The narrow, steep road demands attention even when the scenery draws your gaze elsewhere.
For a longer day, the D71 follows the gorge’s left bank as the Corniche Sublime. Stops include the Balcons de la Mescla, Artuby bridge and Col d’Illoire. On the right bank, the D952 connects the approaches to La Palud-sur-Verdon and Point Sublime.
Build the ride around a few chosen stops. Enjoy the views after parking the motorcycle, and leave room for oncoming traffic on bends where the road remains two-way.
