The Wild Atlantic Way is a coastal touring route of roughly 2,500 kilometres, linking Muff in County Donegal with Kinsale in County Cork. It can also be explored in sections. Wave-shaped W signs guide travellers in either direction; choose one region for a motorcycle trip and leave time for stops.
A four-day itinerary around Donegal’s northern headlands covers about 430 kilometres. It includes the Inishowen Peninsula, Malin Head, Fanad Head lighthouse and the Slieve League cliffs. This provides a framework for an unhurried tour: use designated parking at attractions and explore the coastline on foot as well.
Traffic in Ireland keeps left, and speed signs in the Republic of Ireland use kilometres per hour. Many local roads are narrow and have no hard shoulder. Allow extra time for these sections and rest breaks; adapt your pace to visibility, road width and weather conditions.
You can bring your own motorcycle by sea: Brittany Ferries carries motorcycles between Roscoff and Cork. Check sailings for your dates and vehicle availability before booking accommodation. Consider cabin arrangements and arrival time separately, so the first day ashore does not become an exhausting transfer.
