Yamaha Motor Europe has announced a major change to its BLU CRU World Cup for young riders: the R7 will replace the R3 in 2027. The series began in 2021 as a stepping stone towards higher levels of racing. Moving to a larger motorcycle changes both the equipment and the demands on riders preparing for the next stage of their careers.
Organisers plan 12 races across six European rounds held alongside the Superbike world championship. The selected machine is the R7 introduced in 2026, powered by a 689cc CP2 engine. That represents a clear step up from the R3 category while retaining a single motorcycle model for all competitors. The change is therefore as much about the progression path for riders as it is about engine size.
The announced full-season package costs €29,000 and includes use of a race-prepared R7, leathers, tyres, fuel and entry fees. It gives prospective competitors a clearer view of the series’ core costs, although travel and personal expenses still need separate planning. The calendar begins at Assen in April, then visits Spain, the Czech Republic, Britain, France and Italy.
