A motorcycle tour does not have to fill a week. In North Wales, the EVO Triangle is a loop of about 20 miles, or 32 kilometres, formed by the B4501, A543 and A5. Close to the main A5 route into Eryri, it can stand alone as a short ride or become a pause in a longer journey. Riders know the loop for its bends, but the attraction reaches beyond the road itself: Llyn Brenig reservoir and Clocaenog Forest sit nearby.
With more time available, continue from the triangle along the A5 towards the Ogwen Valley. The road runs between the Carneddau and Glyderau ranges, past Llyn Ogwen and the distinctive peak of Tryfan. The stretch from the triangle to the lake is about 30 miles, or 48 kilometres. This extension changes the scale of the ride: a compact loop gives way to a broader mountain landscape with more reasons to stop and look around.
The short distance is no reason to rush. The surroundings of Llyn Brenig invite a break off the bike, while conditions on Welsh upland roads can change the view and the feel of the surface. Allow time for stops, check the current forecast and ride to the conditions. The EVO Triangle shows how a modest stretch of road can become a satisfying day out when the landscape, rather than a mileage target, sets the pace.
