The height of a large touring motorcycle matters most when a rider has to put a foot down. The BMW R 1300 GS addresses that moment with optional adaptive height control, automatically lowering the bike as it stops. Once moving again, the suspension returns to its normal riding height.

With the standard seat, BMW lists a seat height of about 850 millimetres when raised and about 820 millimetres at a standstill or at low speed. The difference is roughly 30 millimetres. Full suspension travel remains available at riding height, while the lower position makes it easier to reach the ground.

This feature is not standard on every R 1300 GS. Adaptive height control is an option that requires Dynamic Suspension Adjustment. Anyone considering the motorcycle should check the equipment on the particular bike and try the seat height while wearing their riding boots.
