Daugavpils can be explored in a single continuous bicycle ride. The 32-kilometre Daugavpils Loop starts and finishes at Unity Square in the city centre. Rather than following just one riverbank, it connects streets and promenades with the fortress, an industrial part of the city and the area around Lielais Stropu Lake. Returning to the same square makes it possible to plan a day ride without arranging separate transport back to the starting point.
The setting changes after the historic city sights. Several kilometres of cycle paths take riders near Lielais Stropu Lake; later the loop reaches the Rugeļi reservoir and follows the Bruģu Street promenade back toward Unity Square. That sequence brings different sides of Daugavpils into one outing: fortifications, working city streets, water and greener sections. It offers a more varied picture than a short circuit of the centre alone.
The route is rated moderately difficult. Surfaces alternate between asphalt, forest tracks and gravel, so tyre choice, weather and available time deserve attention before setting off. A section of marked cycling route No. 35 is included, but it is still sensible to review the full loop on a map, particularly where city streets give way to a different surface. The ride suits visitors who want to understand the city in motion rather than see it from one square.
