Artistic cyclists perform sequences that resemble gymnastics or ballet on a bicycle. The indoor discipline includes individual riders, pairs and teams of four.
Routines last up to five minutes, with a maximum of 30 figures for singles or 25 for pairs and teams of four. Riders follow their submitted sequence; pairs perform on both two bicycles and one shared bike.
The specialised bicycle has a fixed 1:1 gear, allowing forward and backward riding. Its handlebar and saddle are also shaped for standing on. The equipment serves precise movement around a sports hall rather than high speed.
The difficulty values of the figures establish the starting score. Imprecise execution, touching the floor or falling cost points. When watching, pay attention to transitions as well as spectacular poses: clean execution turns an ambitious routine into a winning performance.
