Overtaking on a motorcycle can feel quick and simple, but a safe manoeuvre begins before the acceleration itself. Other road users need time to notice the motorcycle and understand the rider intent.
SAAQ safety guidance treats visibility as an active part of riding: checked lights, a visible lane position, enough spacing and avoiding places where the motorcycle disappears into car blind spots.
Before overtaking, the rider should make sure the motorcycle is not hidden behind the vehicle ahead. A small change of position within the lane can improve the view and give others a chance to notice the bike.
The turn indicator should come early enough to be useful. If it appears at the same time as the manoeuvre, it no longer helps others decide; it only confirms a movement that has already started.
