BMW brought Danilo Petrucci and Miguel Oliveira together in its factory WorldSBK team for 2026. Their careers reached the same garage by notably different routes. Italian rider Petrucci raced in MotoGP from 2012 to 2021, later won a stage of the 2022 Dakar Rally and raced in MotoAmerica. Oliveira progressed through the junior classes, including Moto3 and Moto2, before taking five MotoGP victories. The contrast between those journeys is the strongest part of this pairing’s story.
Petrucci established himself in WorldSBK with the independent Barni team before gaining a factory seat. He finished fifth overall in both 2024 and 2025 as the highest-placed independent rider. Oliveira moved from MotoGP into WorldSBK with BMW’s 2026 project. He faced a new championship and a different type of racing motorcycle, while Petrucci already knew the series’ rhythms. Their pairing brings first-hand knowledge of the championship alongside experience of adapting across categories.
Both ride the BMW M 1000 RR: Petrucci carries number 9 and Oliveira number 88. Petrucci works with crew chief Marcus Eschenbacher, while Andrew Pitt supports Oliveira. Those partnerships show why a factory line-up is more than two names on an entry list. Each rider brings a separate technical group and a distinct way of turning previous experience into performance. BMW’s account explains their paths to the grid without claiming what the season will deliver.
