Sarah Byles grew up around motorsport in New Zealand and competed in rallying as a teenager. Her career, however, took her into race teams rather than onto the starting grid. After studying journalism and gaining experience at rally events, she moved to Britain to work in international motorsport.
Byles joined a motorcycle racing team in 2018, initially handling sponsors and social media. Her role later expanded to keeping the visual presentation of the garage, transport and team clothing consistent. A racing calendar leaves little room for delay: everything has to be ready when the event begins.
She also stresses the human side of the job. In the women’s world circuit racing championship, a rider’s immediate support circle can be small, making a team member’s presence after a difficult race especially valuable. Her experience shows how motorcycle racing depends on people who coordinate communication, partnerships and the daily life of a team, as well as on riders and mechanics.
