In October 1981, Honda announced the City and the Motocompo developed alongside it. The small motorcycle was designed to travel in the car’s boot. Folding handlebars and footrests, together with measures to prevent fluid leaks, made transport part of its engineering brief. Storage space helped shape the motorcycle itself.
The pairing combined cars and motorcycles for outdoor recreation. The City’s tall body and the ability to carry a Motocompo formed a coordinated proposition.
The example invites a broader view of design: where a vehicle is stored, how it is carried and when it is ridden. Compact dimensions become meaningful when they solve a specific task across the whole journey.
