Introduced in 1958, the Honda Super Cub C100 had a low frame, large leg shields and an air-cooled four-stroke engine. Its three-speed gearbox worked with an automatic centrifugal clutch. Together, these elements formed a compact motorcycle for everyday transport.
Wheel size shaped the whole silhouette. The designers chose 17-inch rims to balance riding qualities with easy mounting and dismounting. A low, horizontally positioned engine left generous space to step through the frame, while dispensing with the clutch lever simplified operation.
Looking at the museum example, notice how its parts work together: shields, seat and wheels create one readily recognisable shape. The Super Cub’s story is a reminder that practical requirements can give a design its character.
