At EICMA in Milan, Piaggio is marking twenty years since the MP3 appeared in 2006. The three-wheeled scooter introduced an unusual front end: two independent front wheels linked by a tilting suspension system. That arrangement preserved the leaning feel associated with a scooter while changing how the front of the vehicle meets the road. The MP3 became a clear example of how one structural idea can establish a distinct transport category.

Two decades later, the MP3 is no longer a single unchanging model. Piaggio lists 310, 400 and 530 versions in its current range, with different sizes, equipment and intended uses. The smallest is aimed at urban riders, while the largest offers a broader set of features, with the 400 between them. In its EICMA presentation, the company places the range in both everyday city mobility and longer-distance riding.

The anniversary also shows that transport innovation does not always begin with a new engine. Here, the decisive change was the wheel and suspension layout, which Piaggio has continued to develop across several models. Anyone considering a three-wheeled scooter should look at the dimensions and handling of the particular version and check the licence rules in their country. Twenty years on, what once looked like an unusual shape remains a continuing option for urban travel.
