The first production GSX-R750 left the Hamamatsu line on 25 January 1985. Former Suzuki racing team manager Etsuo Yokouichi led the project. European riders’ appetite for a motorcycle with racing looks helped shape its direction.
Full bodywork enclosed a 749 cc four-cylinder engine with SACS oil cooling. Oil jets cooled the cylinder head and pistons, while the aluminium frame weighed just 8.1 kg. Low weight was central to the overall design.
That same year, the GSX-R750 won the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race. By the end of June 2025, cumulative production across the GSX-R family exceeded 1.2 million units. That figure covers the whole family, spanning several engine capacities.
